Russian Museum of Photography
The museum focuses on the history of photography, as well as the life and oeuvre of Andrey Karelin and Maksim Dmitriev, the pioneers of art and journalistic photography in Russia. The building of the museum was once used as a photo studio by Karelin and Dmitriev. Maxim Gorky, Feodor Chaliapin, and other celebrities of the past century happened to be among its visitors. Nowadays, the museum is home to a standing exhibition of vintage photos of Nizhny Novgorod and a striking collection of photo equipment, the oldest pieces of which originated in the 1870s!
